China Tells North Korea to stop missile drills

North Korea’s increasing development of missiles with longer reach has increased tension between the U.S. and China.
But Tuesday night China called on North Korea to halt tests. In return China said that it and the U.S. would stop defense drills that had angered North Korea, the BBC reported.
The mess of angry recriminations had pushed “the most complicated geopolitical quagmire in the world” into dangerous territory, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency warned on Tuesday afternoon. “The exacerbation of rivalry is pricking up the spectre of warfare,” Xinhua said, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail.
North Korea said Tuesday that firing a barrage of missiles a day earlier “was training for a strike on U.S. military bases in the country — a type of saturation attack that experts say could leave Japan vulnerable,” Japan Times said.
The North Korean news agency said the four missiles were fired at the same time, quoting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as saying that they were “so accurate that they look like acrobatic flying corps in formation.
The U.S. Air Force Times reported: “U.S. missile launchers and other equipment needed to set up a controversial missile defense system have arrived in South Korea, the U.S. and South Korean militaries said Tuesday, a day after North Korea test-launched four ballistic missiles into the ocean near Japan.

The plans to deploy the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system, or THAAD, within this year have angered not only North Korea, but also China and Russia, which see the system's powerful radars as a security threat.
“China on Tuesday had reiterated its opposition to the deployment of a U.S. missile shield in the Republic of Korea (ROK).
Apparently a meeting led to the proposed missile halt. And a withdrawal of U.S. missiles seemed likely.
